Founding Probus Dun Laoghaire Marine member and Probus President in 2006, Fred Newell died in St Michael's Hospital on 11 January 2023 in his 96th year.
Rev Andrew Gill in his tribute at Fred's funeral in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Mount Merrion Avenue, spoke about the three registers maintained in the Church - baptism, marriage and memorial and how Fred had the distinction of being included in each them.
Fred was a pupil at Avoca & Kingstown School (founded in 1891). He worked briefly in his father's business, Newell's Garage Foxrock, before embarking on a long-term career with Unidare, which became a public company in 1947 and was wound up in 2006.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Anne in 2015. They married on 12 May 1956. Our condolences are extended to Fred's two children, Nigel and Hilary.
